ANESTHESIA PERMIT

In the State of Georgia, in order to obtain any of these permits, the dentist or the oral surgeon must meet specific requirements. This includes training and certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association, appropriate equipment for the administration of anesthesia, a written emergency protocol for managing complications related to anesthesia administration, and complete and accurate record-keeping of all patients who receive anesthesia.

Read the State of Georgia Rules and Regulations for Sedation Permits:

Applications and Forms

Minimal Sedation Permit

This permit allows oral surgeons to provide minimal sedation using drugs that have a low risk of adverse events. Minimal sedation is a state of depressed consciousness during which the patient can respond normally to verbal commands.

Moderate Sedation/Analgesia Permit

This permit allows oral surgeons to provide moderate sedation/analgesia using drugs that have a higher risk of adverse events. Moderate sedation/analgesia is a drug-induced depression of consciousness during which the patient can respond purposefully to verbal commands.

Deep Sedation/General Anesthesia Permit

This permit allows oral surgeons to provide deep sedation and general anesthesia using drugs that have a high risk of adverse events. Deep sedation is a drug-induced depression of consciousness during which the patient cannot be easily aroused but can still respond purposefully to repeated or painful stimuli. General anesthesia is a drug-induced loss of consciousness during which the patient cannot be aroused, even by painful stimulation.
