Your doctor requested L G Anesthesia Service, Inc. to provide anesthesia care during your procedure. Our anesthesia team members are dedicated to providing outstanding service and safe, high quality anesthesia care for you every time.
You should receive specific instructions as to when to stop eating and drinking prior to your procedure. The stomach should be empty to avoid the risk of stomach contents entering the lungs once anesthesia is given. Not following these instructions can result in a procedure’s delay or cancellation. As a general rule, you should not eat a heavy meal for 8 hours before your procedure. You may have a small amount of water up to 2 hours prior to procedure in order to take instructed medications.
Please make sure to follow instructions regarding your medications. There may be some medications that will be stopped or withheld for a certain period of time before your procedure, while others will be continued. You may be advised to take certain medications on schedule the morning of your procedure with a small sip of water.
Your anesthesia team member will meet you on the day of your procedure, discuss the anesthetic plan, and answer all your questions. Multiple factors including the type and duration of surgery, your medical history, your personal preference, and the opinion of the surgeon and anesthesia provider, will influence the anesthetic plan.
Most procedures are done with deep sedation or moderate/conscious sedation. In addition, you will receive local anesthesia to help with post-operative pain. In the operating room you will be given supplemental oxygen and monitors will be used to monitor your blood pressure, heart rhythm, oxygenation percentage, and breathing. Your anesthesia provider will be present with you throughout the entire surgery from beginning to end. When the procedure is complete you will be monitored until you are ready to go home.
Your recovery from your dental procedure and anesthesia depends on a number of factors including the type and duration of the procedure and anesthetic. When you are alert and comfortable, we will get you ready to go home. Although you may feel normal, you should not drive, operate machinery, or make any important decisions for at least 24 hours after your procedure.
It is necessary for you to make arrangements for a responsible adult to take you home after your anesthetic or sedation, since we will not allow you to leave alone or drive yourself home. It is strongly suggested that you have someone stay with your during the first 24 hours.
