OFFICE REQUIREMENTS

In the state of Georgia, dental offices must follow specific requirements when providing anesthesia and sedation to patients. These requirements are designed to ensure patient safety and include the following:

  1. Permit: Before providing anesthesia or sedation, the dental office must obtain a permit from the Georgia Board of Dentistry.
  2. Training: The dentist and all personnel administering anesthesia or sedation must have current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association.
  3. Monitoring: During the administration of anesthesia or sedation, the patient must be continuously monitored for vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse rate, and oxygen saturation.
  4. Equipment: The dental office must have appropriate equipment for the administration of anesthesia or sedation, including a functioning pulse oximeter, blood pressure monitor, and emergency medications.
  5. Emergency preparedness: The dental office must have a written emergency protocol in place for managing complications related to anesthesia or sedation.
  6. Record-keeping: The dental office must maintain complete and accurate records of all patients who receive anesthesia or sedation, including the type and amount of medication administered and the patient's vital signs.

It is important for dental offices in Georgia to follow these requirements to ensure patient safety and avoid any legal or regulatory issues.
